Our family

Four generations,
one love

For over thirty-five years, we have been ambassadors in Italy and around the world for Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro DOP: a hillside wine that expresses the authentic soul of Modena and Emilia in every glass.

Our love story with Castelvetro began in the early 1960s, when Antonio Altariva moved here with his family from Pavullo nel Frignano. Working as a sharecropper, he began selling Grasparossa grapes and Lambrusco in demijohns.

In 1971, his son Domenico together with his wife Albertina purchased two and a half hectares of land. Here they found some room for their house, a vineyard, and their first cellar. The production of Lambrusco Grasparossa quickly became the cornerstone of the family business, which soon included Fabio and Fausto, the third generation of winemakers.

In 1991, the two brothers, now in their twenties, switched from selling bulk wine to private individuals to producing and marketing naturally bottled Lambrusco Grasparossa DOP.
A larger cellar was built in the basement, and “Fattoria Moretto” was officially established and spread on the first labels.

As the hectares of vineyards cultivated on the hills of Castelvetro grew, the journey towards organic farming began in 1995. In the late 1990s, they switched to the Martinotti (Charmat) method, seeking greater purity, elegance, and expressiveness of the varietal.

Today, with the arrival of Alessio, Fabio’s son and the fourth generation of the family, a new chapter in our history has begun, going on with the same passion as the first day.
